Krishnaveni began learning music under her maternal uncles, V. L. Vedagiri and V. L. Janakiraman, both A-grade artistes of All India Radio.
She studied at the Central College of Music, Madras, and was awarded the Sangeetha Vidwan title in May 1984, with vocal music as her main subject and veena as her subsidiary subject. Her certificate records first class in the practical examination.
She also holds a Diploma in Music in vocal music from Andhra University, awarded following the October 1984 examination.
Her original résumé describes guidance during her college studies from R. Vedavalli, K. V. Narayanaswamy and T. N. Krishnan, with veena guidance from Saradha Sivanandam. Her later training includes mentorship from Shyamala Venkateswaran and study of rare Muthuswami Dikshitar kritis with R. K. Shriramkumar.
Krishnaveni teaches vocal music from foundational exercises through to manodharma and concert preparation. Her experience includes lecture-demonstrations on classical ragas in film music and jugalbandi programmes with Hindustani music students.
She adapts a level-wise syllabus to each student’s existing knowledge and progress. Beginners work with foundational exercises and early compositions; continuing students develop their repertoire and explore manodharma.
Her teaching gives attention to bhava, shruti and laya—expression, pitch and rhythm. Vocal practice includes breath control and gamaka clarity. Her experience also includes preparing students for the stage, concert planning, student aradhanas and group renditions.
